Union Major General, most known for his performance at the Second Battle of Bull Run & his subsequent court martial. Two-page ALS "F. J. Porter", 4.5x6.5, Dec 25 [1884] Hotel Wellington, New York offering grand association, penned to General Gilman Marston sending "merry Christmas and the enjoyment of the seasons as they roll around" wishes, adding his "hope that the Governor [of New Hampshire] will send forth his glad tidings of great joy.", edge split at fold. Of historical note, Marston (1811-1890) was a Union general, saw action during the First Battle of Bull Run in July 1861, his arm was shattered, but he refused an amputation, later fought in the Peninsula Campaign, Second Battle of Bull Run & Battle of Fredericksburg
