Early (Pierce was elected in 1836 as the youngest U.S. Senator at the age of 32) two-page, recto & verso, ALS "Franklin Pierce", 8x10, Oct 12 1840 with wonderful content to his mother, already recognized as an eloquent orator & writer, letter is filled with fine examples of his grand writings, in part: "...I am very sorry that circumstances have conspired to postpone your visit to us, upon which we have so much depended...", adding great detail about his busy Senate schedule including "a hearing of much interest upon a road committee in which I must take a part in", handsome, attractively priced, Pierce lists in Sanders over $1,000 in ALS form
