German-born American artist, accomplished as a designer, photographer, typographer, printmaker & poet, best remembered for his work as an abstract artist. UNIQUE collection of two portfolio folders, each 20x15 unopened, presenting four original black & white silkscreens from Albers' 1972 "Formulation : Articulation", unsigned impressions aside from the signed & numbered edition, consisting of: "Portfolio II Folder 10" & "Portfolio II Folder 21", two attached silkscreens in each folder, four silkscreens in total, copyrighted by Harry N Abrams, Inc. & Ives-Stillman, Inc., with stamp notation "IVES-SILLMAN TEST PRINT", minor staining, likely from printing process. Of historical note, in 1972, when Josef Albers was in his eighties, he published "Formulation : Articulation", a set of two boxed portfolios of silkscreen prints, with these pieces, Albers continued his lifelong exploration of the basic elements that make up an image
